Collections

Collections are a major new feature in response to your requests and provide a whole new way to casually browse potential home exchange opportunities that match your interests.

There are currently 35 Collections, each highlighting different characteristics of the diverse Member Community. You will find collections based on passions, such as Skiing, Golfing, Surfing; some based on lifestyle traits like, Teachers, Pet Owners, and Active Retirees; and even specific amenities, as in Houses with Pools and Kid Friendly Homes.

Also, if another Member has indicated that they are interested in visiting your town, their Listing will be prioritized and highlighted within any collection. This spotlights potential exchange partners quickly and easily, and personalizes your experience more than ever.

  1. This sounded like a good idea because the search feature buries my listing among thousands of other Florida listings….but when I search “Islands” my home is not there! My home is on Little Gasparilla Island….yet it does not appear under the listing of islands. How can I make this happen?

    • Good question! Collections are generated by information that you have provided about your home. To make sure that you are being included in the proper locations, go to Your Account – Your Listings and on the resulting page click on the Edit Listing. Here, you can tag Vacation Types on the “Your Home” tab, and in the “your neighborhood” and “activiteis and surroundings” sections.

Let us know if you have any additional questions. If you need help trouble-shooting as you’re going through it, our live chat support team is there to help you. Happy home exchanging!

  2. I can’t see how to mark my listing as part of any of the collections

    • Hi Ricardo,

Thank you for your message! To make sure that you are being included, go to Your Account – Your Listings and on the resulting page click on the Edit Listing. Here, you can tag Vacation Types on the “Your Home” tab, in the “your neighborhood” and “activiteis and surroundings” sections.

  3. What about a way to filter out people whose party is bigger than what your home can host? That’s be a real time saver.

    • Hi Nicolas,

Currently, you are able to filter your search results based on the number of travelers. To do so, select advanced filters on the right-hand side column of your search results, and then select Exchange Partner. There you’ll be able to select the number of people traveling and filter your results accordingly.

Let us know if you need any help as you filter your results.

  4. Having recently completed our 26th and 27th exchange, I would like to recommend trying hosted exchanges for those of you who have always done simultaneous exchanges. Around 20 of our exchanges have been those in which we stayed with our hosts for all or part of the time and they did the same when they visited us. First, your hosts can show you things you would never have thought of. But more importantly, we have made close friends all over the world. We were even invited back for the wedding of one of our exchange couples.

My wife and I have arranged for two exchanges (so far) this year in Spain and Portugal. Two of our former exchange families told us that we had better not come to Spain or Portugal without coming to stay with them as well. What would have been a two week trip has now become a five week one.

Try a hosted exchange; it is an unforgettable experience!

  5. Recently I was looking specifically for an exchange with just two people and I still had to go through them all to see how many travelers there would be. Is there a way you can update it so that we can see immediately how many travelers we want?

    Just an idea!
    Thank you,
    Dianne Arguelles

  6. This is great, but you still need what I have been asking for for years, a reverse search not only for people who are interested in your town, but people that are interested in a certain type of house or activity.

For example, I live in a great ski town in Idaho. People from outside the US don’t think to search for a ski town in Idaho, they search for ones in Colorado for example. I need to be able to find people around the world who are interested in ski towns.

    • Hi Cindi,

Thank you for your feedback and for your suggestions. We will have our tech department look into this for further consideration.

      Happy home exchanging!

  7. I will enjoy looking at your new options and would like to make a suggestion. It would be most helpful if you would list the number of travelers in the initial listing of a property. Other sites have done this and it means we do not have to open a site and check the data to determine whether we want to consider it. Much time would be saved.

    • Hi Kent,

Thank you for the comment — and I’m glad that I can help you here! Currently, we do show the total number of travelers on the initial listing of a property. On each listing, you will see three green icons (a hot air balloon, a suitcase, and one of people). The suitcase has a number next to it that represents how many travelers there are attached to the listing. Additionally, the balloon shows how many exchanges the listing has made, and the icon of people shows how many individuals the home can accommodate.

Let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with!

  8. you still do not offer the most basic request-
how to search for homes that prefer a car exchange!
you used have this feature on the old (better) website, and it saved me a lot of time. please add it!

    • Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for the comment. Unfortunately, there isn’t a filter for car exchanges yet — but we are working to bring that option to you soon! We appreciate the feedback. 🙂

      Happy home exchanging!

  9. How do we know which collection we are featured in? or rather, how do we tag our listing so that we make sure it is included in one or more appropriate collection?
    Thanks

  10. This new idea is good, however I do not want to have to trall through over 11,000 homes to find for instance a “long term” residence.
Take this idea a little further and within each catagory separate available homes into countries and important cities.
I am after long term in the centre of Paris. It will take me forever to find one.
Otherwise, we have hade amazing exchanges!
    Del Hancock

    • Hi Del,

Thank you so much for your comment! Searching by country and cities is something that you are currently able to do within our collections. Just below the map and above our listings is a location filter button that says “Show All Continents.” Select it, and you’ll be able to filter by countries and the major cities in any of our collections. To make things easier, here is a link that contains all of the long-term home exchange listings right in in center of Paris.

Keep us posted about how your home exchange goes. We would love to hear about it!

  11. I was pleased to see that you listed our home in Tahoe Keys in the “Ski” collection (#87026).

    Thanks!

  12. I can see this new feature would be potentially useful but unless I am missing something, there doesn’t seem to be the ability within Home Exchange to search for homes within a specific region of interest. For example in the US people might be interested in visiting the national parks such as Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Glacier etc. and would be looking for a place to stay within say 50 or 100 miles of this which thus covers a number of potential towns. It would make it easier than trying to figure out which particular towns you should be searching on in order to find homes near that particular point of interest.

    • Hi Malcolm,

Thank you so much for your comment! You are currently able to filter countries and cities in any of our collections. Just below the map and above our listings is a location filter button that says “Show All Continents.” Select it, and you’ll be able to filter by countries and the major cities.

Let me know if you have any questions. Happy home exchanging!

  13. Am I right in presuming that by searching the ‘Second Home’ collection, I am more likely to find swappers willing to agree to non-simultaneous exchanges?

  14. Why did you do away with the “nearest airport” feature on the old site? This saved so much time for those of us who just want to fly straight to a destination and might be limited by number of flights and destinations from our own nearest airport. Now we have to expand a map and look for the nearest big town to try to find the nearest airport. It used to save so much time. Please bring it back.
